Postby stroud green » Thu Oct 09, 2014 5:46 pm

This Sunday, the Ladies face Blackburn Rovers Ladies in the Women's Premier League Cup. Blackburn play one level above us and like Rovers are unbeaten in the league. A very tough game. You support would be most welcome.

The ladies battled bravely but were no match to a very good Blackburn Rovers side which boasted three internationals. Final score was 7-0. Report and photos tomorrow. Thanks to the 70 odd hardy souls who came and supported us.

FA WOMEN’S PREMIER LEAGUE CUP
Sunday 12th October 2014

FOREST GREEN ROVERS LFC – 0

BLACKBURN ROVERS LFC - 7
Forest Green came up against a Blackburn side containing three full, and four age group internationals, and which is currently pushing for promotion to the Women’s Super League, and this showed as the visitors dominated this game at Slimbridge on Sunday.

Right from the kick off Blackburn played quick, one touch football, and despite the home team’s best efforts , the visitors scored at regular intervals to build up a four goal lead at the break.

A change in personnel and formation led to a more even second period, with the home team getting more of the ball, and causing Blackburn one or two problems at the back, but with their forwards pace and movement Blackburn added another three goals to run out deserved winners.

The Forest Green ladies gave a gutsy and determined display, and now know what is required if they are to progress up the leagues.

About FGR

We’re a club that looks to the future, but our identity is forged from a rich 128-year history. Founded in 1889, we’re one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

In 2017, we were promoted to the Football League for the first time in our history – which means we can spread our sustainability message to an even bigger audience. FIFA recently described us as the greenest football club in the world. That’s quite an accolade, and it shows how we’ve been able to bring together football and environmental consciousness at the highest levels of the game.
