Forest Green Rovers Ladies will have to wait till the weekend to see if they will be crowned FA Women's Premier League South West Division One champions.

It follows a late defeat at Chichester on Sunday where they were only a minute away from securing a draw which would have been enough to pick up the title.

Exeter City Ladies need to hammer Cheltenham Town by eleven clear goals if they are to pip Josh Giddins' outfit to the championship, so Forest Green will be hoping their title rivals don't go goal crazy.

Naomi Marshall looked to have given FGR the lead at Chichester, only to see her close range finish ruled offside, while she speared an effort over the bar minutes later.

The home side broke the deadlock when they finished well from a free kick and almost doubled their lead, only for Georgina Macey to make a fine stop.

Hannah Hale found the all important equaliser midway through the half when she finished brilliantly when the ball dropped in the area.

There was to be late heartbreak though when Chichester's Jenna Fowlie slammed in under the bar with only seconds remaining.

It means Rovers face a nervous week and will be keeping a keen eye on Exeter's progress next weekend.

Thanks joycie and Shane.

What are the chances of that many goals being scored next weekend?

Cheltenham have conceded five goals a few times this season (including against us) and lost 6-4 on one occasion. They lost 4-0 last time out. So they aren't great but they are midtable and surely 11 goals is too much. It will be nailbiting for the ladies team though having come so far. Fingers crossed.

Lets hope we can all just ' lie back and enjoy it today ' .

(i thought the stadium announcer said at yesterdays game that the ladies were going to do a pre-match circle of the ptich-never happened-pity-seems to me they would have deserved raptuous applause' ).

It seems a bit premature to be doing laps of honour. As you say Dover would be more appropriate if they do win anything.
I shall be updating the latest on the Ladies Twitter from 2pm @fgrlfc.

We will all be up the Green Man this afternoon awaiting news which is opening specially. We also have the Reserves playing their last game of the season v Poole Town. 2pm KO.

Any support would be greatly appreciated.

About FGR

We’re a club that looks to the future, but our identity is forged from a rich 128-year history. Founded in 1889, we’re one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

In 2017, we were promoted to the Football League for the first time in our history – which means we can spread our sustainability message to an even bigger audience. FIFA recently described us as the greenest football club in the world. That’s quite an accolade, and it shows how we’ve been able to bring together football and environmental consciousness at the highest levels of the game.
