Academy Double

Postby Columbia » Fri May 13, 2016 9:40 am

I know this is in the wrong forum, but wanted to highlight it to the masses. Last night the Academy side led by Tommy Callinan beat Poole Town in the Gary Else cup final to complete the league / cup double again.

Many of the lads played Monday night in the Glos Senior Cup so understandably found the game hard going on a difficult bobbily pitch, finding themselves 3-1 down with 20 or so to go, two goals brought FGR level and took the game into extra time. No winner could be found although the game was very stretched. In the end it was decided by penalties, after both teams had two penalties saved during the regulation 5, the second round of sudden death saw Poole miss and Tom Leonard tucking his away to secure the win.

Nice to see Mark Cooper there watching too.

So that's 2 out of trophy wins this week. A third Sunday ?

The future of FGR looks encouraging with the success of the youth sides.

It's great to see that Mark is taking an interest in them as well.

About FGR

We’re a club that looks to the future, but our identity is forged from a rich 128-year history. Founded in 1889, we’re one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

In 2017, we were promoted to the Football League for the first time in our history – which means we can spread our sustainability message to an even bigger audience. FIFA recently described us as the greenest football club in the world. That’s quite an accolade, and it shows how we’ve been able to bring together football and environmental consciousness at the highest levels of the game.
