Elsie’s View
On Sunday the FGR Ladies played against their toughest team yet: Boco! They were both very physical teams that had a lot of skill on the pitch. Rovers had to fight hard if they wanted to win but we still had the advantage as we were 1st in the league and they were 2nd. However, there was a lot of pressure on the girls because if they won they would successfully win the league and get promoted to the South west Ladies Premiership.
The game started off evenly, but Forest Green had a bit more of that fighting spirit and managed to break through their defence. Although, Boco then got it off of us and cleared it, resulting in a corner. A great cross in from Rhian Robbins lead to Sophie Okey scoring the first goal of the match with a fantastic header. A while after though, Boco caught us off guard and had a couple of really good runs keeping my dad and I on the edge of our seats; luckily our goalkeeper, Lucy Clark, saved both. Nearing the end of the first half Boco made another run and unfortunately for FGR, they scored, levelling the game. However, we were right back up the other end and, whilst going for the ball, one of our players got a yellow card injuring Boco’s goalkeeper in the shin. Even after all that, there was still a bit of time left in the first half and Sian Towler used this to her advantage. She skilled past a defender and hit it just above the goalkeeper; originally we thought the goalkeeper caught it but the shot was too powerful and the goalie lost her grip so it went straight over the line and into the net ending the first half nicely with FGR leading 2-1.
Onto an exciting second half now, where immediately both teams were straight on the ball. FGR had so many corners I think I lost count and every time they had a shot at the goal, it somehow managed to avoid the net. There was no need to worry though because after Boco nearly scored, a magnificent run from Libby Timney and Laura McGlone gave Sian Towler another chance to score, but it deflected of a defenders back straight to Charlie Rowlands who hit it straight in the back of the net finishing the game for FGR as league champions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Overall, it was a great game to watch with a 3-1 win to Forest Green. My player of the match has to go to Laura McGlone because she’s a very skilful player and was just amazing on the pitch having a big impact on the game. Well done to the girls, who played brilliantly, and they are all well-deserved winners of the league. Keep it up!

Hi Ned, just posting the link to the Citizen's publication of Elsie's report/Fans view on the media section of the forum, for those that don't look at the ladies section, hope that is ok? Elsie thinks the achievement is worth shouting about.
