So the first month is over in our first ever season in league football. It's far from predictable at this stage as to how we will get on in the next 41 fixtures.

This thread says it all:

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=86152

Anyway, after the first of nine months ( about 5 matches per month) we are 22nd with 4 points. Obviously the league table at this stage is meaningless and we may be at the other end of the table come the end of the season
It is a fact, an amazing one, that Exeter were 24th on 19 Nov last year, but finished up 5th closely losing out to Blackpool in the Wembley play-offs final.

In month two, September, we had a spell at the bottom, in 24th place.

But after a excellent performance at Notts County, where a win was deserved, one point from a 1-1 draw took us back to 22nd.

End of Nov we are 20th with 20 points...a significant improvement on early in the season.

These predictors are closest should we continue to struggle

16th onlineracingclub, Greeners (15)
17th Tommo (20), Urban Spaceman (18)
18th silver surfer
19th Roy of the Rovers

Early Feb, we are 22nd with 29 points, 15 matches remaining.

There has been a debate on other threads about how many points we need to stay in at least 22nd place at the end of the season. Clearly this depends on the results of other teams, especially Barnet, Crewe, Chesterfield and Morecambe, although Grimsby are currently on a nasty slide as well.

7 more wins would almost certainly see safety (50 points), but 5 wins and two draws ( 46 points) may be enough this season.

Thanks to Kentstripe for the tabulation below, recording the points attained by those in 23rd place at the end of the season. In other words the higher of the two teams relegated.

07/8 Mansfield 42
08/09 Chester 37
09/10 Grimsby 44
10/11 Lincoln 47
11/12 Hereford 44
12/13 Barnet 51
13/14 Bristol Rovers 50
14/15 Cheltenham 41
15/16 Dagenham 34
16/17 Hartlepool 46

Working that out, the average points total of the team finishing 23rd over the last 10 years is 44

So late March we're 20th on 40 points with 7 to play

It's looked like Grimsby and Barnet for a while to go down to me - but we still need a couple of wins and a couple of draws ( 48 points) to feel secure. Looking at the fixtures, this should be doable if we play close to the standard achieved against Mansfield.

16th onlineracingclub, Greeners (15)
17th Tommo (20), Urban Spaceman (18)
18th silver surfer
19th Roy of the Rovers

It's looking like Roy of the Rovers or Silver Surfer to win this, but 16th is still a possibility with 3 or 4 wins

So 21st 6 and 8 points above Barnet & Chesterfield, although the latter has a game in hand.

We look assured of surviving the threat of relegation, 17th -22nd looks highly probable.

So one of these 4 will win

17th Tommo (20), Urban Spaceman (18)
18th silver surfer
19th Roy of the Rovers

About FGR

We’re a club that looks to the future, but our identity is forged from a rich 128-year history. Founded in 1889, we’re one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

In 2017, we were promoted to the Football League for the first time in our history – which means we can spread our sustainability message to an even bigger audience. FIFA recently described us as the greenest football club in the world. That’s quite an accolade, and it shows how we’ve been able to bring together football and environmental consciousness at the highest levels of the game.
