Today's game

Postby michael » Tue Jul 09, 2019 12:46 pm

I wonder who todays friendly is against.

Torquay-or is some scottish or EFL side also based in the area ?

I hope the opposition will be revealed post match

Big/nervous game i would imagine for a number of the young players making their Forest Green Zedbra's debuts under managements watchful eye.

Looks like he played first half as well and came back on. So no issue

Good to see Dan Jones getting some game time with the first team - the next cab off the block from the academy, as Jordan Stevens was recently. Hope to see him in the cup games this season and maybe more.

Why is not a name put in front of 'trialist', such as:

Giancarlo, (trialist)? It would be nice to know the name instead of being a mystery guest. :(

Or Witch (trialist)? Sheepdog (trialist)? Or even someone who scores with every shot: Clinical (trialist)?

Remember watching A Trialist who later turned out to be Aarran Racine. What a fantastic player he was. Think it was under Dave Hockaday's time but could be wrong.

I think he came in against the Man Utd youngsters? I remember him clipping a quality ball forward early in the game and thinking he was too good for us!
Shame about his injuries

Didn't Aarran arrive on a short term contract, possibly a couple of months, when we lost most of our defence to injury in pre-season friendlies...things then went well for him and he was offered a permanent deal.

A couple of great triallists in recent years were Marcus Kelly at Brimscombe, he was a cut above down there, and Jonny Maxstead who as i recall got his chance in a friendly against Cardiff after an injury meant he got a last minute call up and played a blinder.

It hardly matters-but the penalty award to FGR in today's game looks a bit dubious .
(if only we could get those in the real games says MC !)

Your post reminded me of a PSF [behind closed doors] in Ady Pennock's time.
Referee turned up late for game and completely lost it. Sent off two FGR players leaving Ady absolutely speechless with rage at the referee's incompetence.
Fortunately Ady and team overcame that early season setback and reached the play-offs.
Forget who the referee was or whether he was ever again allowed to officiate a FGR game.

About FGR

We’re a club that looks to the future, but our identity is forged from a rich 128-year history. Founded in 1889, we’re one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

In 2017, we were promoted to the Football League for the first time in our history – which means we can spread our sustainability message to an even bigger audience. FIFA recently described us as the greenest football club in the world. That’s quite an accolade, and it shows how we’ve been able to bring together football and environmental consciousness at the highest levels of the game.
