James Morton - Quarterback

I've seen Mr Morton has been described as a Quarterback for the team, by MC.

Just wondered what peoples thoughts were on what that role is.

Looking at a few sites - I would class as a Defensive midfielder (deep-lying playmaker)

• Sits in front of the defence
• Creative playmaker from deep
• Distributes to teammates, near and far
• Sets the team’s tempo
• Capable of tackling, though a secondary task

I'll watch carefully during tomorrows game how he works with Winne in the middle of the pitch.

What are your thoughts?

I think he may be suspended tomorrow, because of the red card he received in the game against Carlisle.

Think Michael Carrick when he was at Man Utd would be a decent example of someone in that role.

At the very top level Andrea Pirlo would arguably be the best exponent of that position in the last 20 years or so. Basically a deep lying playmaker that dictates a lot of the play.

Would agree a number 6 type. Defensive holding midfield playmaker.

The role Lloyd James did well at the start of last season before fading :(

Morton has been our most creative midfielder and, despite his years, seems to buy enough time with his thinking and movement that he brings a degree of calm to the team. He has a bit to learn in the tackling department but he has a good build and I think he has a lot of potential. It’s a pity he is just on loan.

He won’t play tomorrow and I wonder if Adams or Dawson will come in to replace him. Neither have the creativity of Morton but they will add steel and, innAdam’s case, power in the air in midfield.
