FGR v Billericay Town [FA Cup 1st round]: match forecast

Postby The Old TomCat » Sun Nov 03, 2019 10:55 am

Billericay arrive at TNL a week after some vandals broke into the ground with two vehicles and churned the pitch up, thus forcing Saturday’s game verses Weymouth to be postponed.
Not the best preparation for probably their biggest match of season.
Early forecasts are that Billericay will be bringing three supporter’s coaches to game and will be accommodated in the North Stand.

Billericay Town Football Club [established in 1880] is a football club based in Billericay, Essex, England. The club are currently 8th in the National League South, the sixth tier of English football, and play at New Lodge [Capacity 5,000 with 2,000 seated].
This is the 5th occasion that Billericay have reached the FA Cup 1st round: 1997–98, 2004–05, 2007–08, 2017–18, and 2018–19.
According to Wikipedia their record transfer fee paid was £27,600 to Maidenhead United for Dean Inman in October 2017, although he is no longer with club.
I don’t think either club have previously met in a FA Cup tie.

Having returned to top of table with that terrific away win at Cheltenham, FGR might perhaps prefer to concentrate on the league and this game could be one of those where FGR relax and don’t send out full first team. I don’t think so and am forecasting a good home win:

FGR 3-0 Billericay
Junior Mondal to score
2,008 attendance

FGR 2 Billericay 0, attendance 1,700. I'll go Collins to score but its hard to guess what the team will be. I’ll play my JOKER too please despite us fielding a weakened team.

I suppose its likely that all the subs from yesterday will get a go - Collins, Mondal up front, Godwin-Malife, Morton and maybe Taylor too in midfield and McGinley in at the back, possibly with Matt Mills. Thomas will get a go in goal after yesterdays mistake by Wollacott.

So I'm thinking:
Thomas
Dokes, Mills, McGinley, Mills
Taylor, Morton, Winchester
Mondal, Collins, Frear

With McCoulsky on the bench.

Should be good enough but Morton or Taylor or both will need motivated - I feel they have drifted a bit recently and neither has been impressive in the cameos they have had. Its about time Mondal did something too.

Edit. Good to see that we are playing a strong team but I’ve edited my attendance cos of the weather

not in the 'league' but 2-1 to fgr .

attendance 1420.
(i'd be amazed if over 1600 there ,but equally-i would not regard that as a 'poor effort 'or disrespectful to the competition-i love any cup competition-i simply think many supporters will chose this game to take a bit of a early season 'time out '.

About FGR

We’re a club that looks to the future, but our identity is forged from a rich 128-year history. Founded in 1889, we’re one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

In 2017, we were promoted to the Football League for the first time in our history – which means we can spread our sustainability message to an even bigger audience. FIFA recently described us as the greenest football club in the world. That’s quite an accolade, and it shows how we’ve been able to bring together football and environmental consciousness at the highest levels of the game.
