We should be fined, and banned from the competition next season.

There wont be many teams in the competition next season if they start banning teams for fielding weakened sides.

Glad to see us joining most other clubs in treating this competition with the disdain it deserves.

Not sure the rules on cup comps and opting in/out, it may be we have to enter? But getting banned would be a blessed relief and something many clubs would relish!

Good point that he should be playing instead of Collins tonight. If Smith can surly he should. We could do with him heating some gametime as he would be needed if we get another injury.

I think it must be a sign that he is finished with us. Just didn’t fit and didn’t score enough

I don’t understand this mentality at all. If we had a league game Sat, Tues, Sat we would play a strong team. We could have gone through and errant some decent money in this competition and a chance of Wembley. MC could have played 2 mixed teams v Billericay and tonight and still be in both competitions.
Very disappointing we didn’t give it a proper go.

We only needed a draw to make £££ and keep the fringe players match fit...

Sounds dismal all round and shows the paucity of our squad and the lack of good enough youngsters ...

For Saturday no Frear? ?? And I assume Collins banned too so may be Mcoulskey will be on the bench.

Glad I did nt pay to watch it.

The players should pay the costs of any fgr supporters that travelled tonight.

Agree to a point but the club should pay to play such a weak team amazes me.

Can't believe people are moaning. We're top of the league and in with a great chance of making the 3rd round of the FA Cup, having already beaten a Championship club and taken a Premier League to penalties in the league cup.

This competition has been turned into a joke by the EFL, so who cares. The sooner we're out the better.

Yes we have done well so far but when we think we can pick and choose which competitions we want to compete in it’s embarrassing and worrying

The voice of reason! Always looked like a Trojan horse job to get Prem youth sides into league football and glad we're treating it as a training exercise at best.

Listening to your team losing 5.0 is painful in any competition.
We could rejig the league cup and dump this .
The National League teams treat the trophy with equal disdain.

The EFL and the FA need to think about their cup competitions...big time .

Have to agree with KS. This trophy has been turned into a joke, especially by the inclusion of the U21 teams of premiership clubs. Definitely a trojan horse to try and get reserve teams of the big clubs into the league in their own right (and as such, something that is directly against the interest of smaller and lower-league clubs. Like us, for example. And, well around 60 to 70 other clubs too).

Thought we showed Billericay the respect they deserved by playing a fully-fledged team against a much smaller team, currently in some difficulties, two leagues below us, on Saturday, in a tournament that may have lost some of its sheen, but in which the domination of the big money teams only really comes in at a later stage . And obviously our main priority overall this year is trying to gain promotion. Yes, in a way it's a pity to throw away what could have been an easy chance to get through to the next round. But priorities are what they are, so I can see and pretty much share the rationale behind playing a weakened team tonight. I'd gladly see FGR opt out of this trophy if we were allowed to!

About FGR

We’re a club that looks to the future, but our identity is forged from a rich 128-year history. Founded in 1889, we’re one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

In 2017, we were promoted to the Football League for the first time in our history – which means we can spread our sustainability message to an even bigger audience. FIFA recently described us as the greenest football club in the world. That’s quite an accolade, and it shows how we’ve been able to bring together football and environmental consciousness at the highest levels of the game.
