FGR v Accrington Stanley: match forecast

FGR entertain high flying Accrington Stanley on Saturday. 3rd in table occupying an automatic promotion spot, Accrington will travel to TNL expecting a good result to maintain and confirm their early season form.
In their last three games they have had the fortune to play three of the basement teams, Port Vale, Chesterfield & Cheltenham with two wins and draw v Cheltenham. Let’s hope FGR can change those stats around with a win.

Accrington’s league matches from start of season:
Win..........................................Draw ........................................Loss
Colchester [h] 3-1 ....................Notts Co [a] 2-2 .......................Yeovil [a] 2-3
Mansfield [h] 2-1 ..................... Cheltenham [h] 1-1 ................ Grimsby [h] 1-2
Morecambe [a] 2-1
Carlisle [h] 3-0
Chesterfield [a] 2-1
Port Vale [a] 2-1

My forecast FGR 2-1 Accrington

////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
CAMBRIDGE 3-0 FGR
Four of our predictas forecast that grim correct result:
Ashley, Cotswold farmer, tommyd, Silver Surfer

while the following dozen forecast a Cambridge win:
The Running Rover, GETCARTER, voodoobluesman, andymac26, Tommo, Michael, dursleydog,
20yrs and counting, SkunkMan, Great Dane, Mothy, Rich E

Therefore
Running total of correct forecasts:
2] dursleydog, FGR123, GETCARTER, greenstripe, Silver Surfer, tommyd,

[1] andymac26, Ashley, Cotswold farmer, montyc, linfield rovers, OTC, chrism, Head Honcho, Pitchfork, camel, Football Poets, Kentstripe, king giraffe III, Michael, Mothy, redunited, Rich E, tommyd, SkunkMan

Sadly FGR 1-2 Accies. We will see a fully committed display as per usual, but not quite good enough. Praying for a point but just can’t see it. Whatever the result I will be cheering to the last, just hope no booing, players are trying but....

1-3. Early two goals conceded, a third straight after half time and then a late consolation

It's the hope that gets you, but my hope is pretty low now, so FGR 0 - 4 Who are they?

Everyone seems to be of the opinion that "if only we score first..."; "if we just draw...": "if we could just win one game..." then the season will turn around and everything will be OK again, and Bobby Ewing comes out of the shower.

I think it's more than that, we need to start to see a pattern, rather than just one result. I think that we can see a pattern of slight improvements in the way we're playing, but we're still making mistakes, taking too long on the ball and being punished for the mistakes. Perhaps a draw or even (bod-forbid) a win might be a sign that things might be turning around, but this will be more than one game in the mending.

I believe scoring first will give us the necessary confidence to make quicker decisions.

FGR 2 - Accrington Stanley 3. They've not got the tightest of defences, but then neither have we at present! :) :) :)

About FGR

We’re a club that looks to the future, but our identity is forged from a rich 128-year history. Founded in 1889, we’re one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

In 2017, we were promoted to the Football League for the first time in our history – which means we can spread our sustainability message to an even bigger audience. FIFA recently described us as the greenest football club in the world. That’s quite an accolade, and it shows how we’ve been able to bring together football and environmental consciousness at the highest levels of the game.
