FGR v Macclesfield [FA Cup]: match forecast

Postby The Old TomCat » Wed Nov 01, 2017 10:15 am

FGR play Macclesfield in 1st round of FA on Saturday at TNL. First time in years that FGR were drawn first out of bag in that competition.
When draw was made Macclesfield were riding high and top of the National League but since then have suffered two successive defeats [home and away] and are now 2nd in table.
However their overall record remains very formidable with 10 wins [best in Conference], 6 losses and 2 draws.
On current form [6 games] they are joint top in Conference with 12 pts from 4 wins and 2 losses. And on current away form they are also joint top of table with 15 points from 5 wins and one loss.
Therefore Macclesfield must be seen as a very formidable challenge from a team only 5 places below us in rankings.
Nevertheless, FGR are riding high with three successive league wins. I suspect they will be the bookie’s favourite to win at home but if Macclesfield manage a draw, I think FGR will go to their stadium as second favourites. [Good to know that Macclesfield seldom draw games].

My forecast FGR 2-1 Macclesfield

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
FGR 2-0 Morecambe

Out of 40 predictions, 6 forecast the correct score and another 26 forecast a home win.
Therefore congrats to the 6:- GetCarter, Tommyd, Two guns, hjtwells, Stanman & The Cumbrian.

Interestingly, despite their league position, Macclesfield's goal difference is only +1, suggesting they are perhaps a little fortunate to be so high up the table?

I really hope we have turned a corner now after three consecutive league wins - no more days like Newport home please - and an FA Cup run would be very nice.

I have no idea what the score will be, but the fixture itself is a fascinating one for me.

A reasonable number have said-self included -that last years national league side was a better side than the current.
despite recent improvements-i still believe that to be the case.

one game will not prove a point, but if macclesfield win-perhaps it gives some support to that view.

If FGR win comfortably, maybe it denounces that 'theory', and goes to show that EFL2 really is a lot stronger league-and thus needs considerably better players-than national league.

W10 D2 L6 apart from the draws and single GD games they have had 2x-3s a -2 and 2x+2s they also had aa+5 but that was in the cup against Solihull (bottom of the same league), so thhey seem to be somewhat inconsistent. Last 5 matches WWWLL

Hi
I notice that Man U don't have a game on Saturday, they are in London on Sunday, so I wonder if Macca's celebrity supporter will attend at the Lawn on Saturday on route to London.

About FGR

We’re a club that looks to the future, but our identity is forged from a rich 128-year history. Founded in 1889, we’re one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

In 2017, we were promoted to the Football League for the first time in our history – which means we can spread our sustainability message to an even bigger audience. FIFA recently described us as the greenest football club in the world. That’s quite an accolade, and it shows how we’ve been able to bring together football and environmental consciousness at the highest levels of the game.
