Checkatrade Trophy Round of 32

I know this competition isn't to everyone's liking and it will always be inferior to the F.A.C and LC. But hey we're still in it unlike Cheltenham! All 3 games to date have been entertaining, good value for money and useful game time for the squad.

The draw for the round of 32 pairings will take place this Friday 10th November, commencing at approximately 6.30pm as part of the pre-match hospitality programme in the Wembley Suite at the England v Germany international friendly fixture.I'm sure it will be on twitter and other media outlets early evening Friday.

The winner of a group will be drawn at home and will play a runner up of a group from the same region (but not from the same group).

As runner up in a group it looks to me as though we will be playing away to one of these teams - Charlton, Gillingham, Bristol Rovers, Yeovil or Plymouth.
There are still matches to play, so one of these teams will not be in the draw.

I don't know about dates, but seem to remember matches will be at the end of this month.

Thanks for the update Phil. Is it a straight knock-out competition from now on?

Yes, an unseeded draw, no extra time in games just penalties.

I see that only three of the premiership under 21 teams are through to the next round with the possibility of one more.
i am not too sure what this means, but I mentioned it anyway.!!!!!!!!
What happens if we get drawn away to one of these teams, do we reverse the fixture to become the home team as they
cannot play at home in this competition.

Hi
Don't fancy Gills, they put 7 past Reading U21s last night.

Mind you, they had only scored 3 before that and had only conceded 1.

Swindon beat Bristol Rovers 4-2 to finish runner's up in their league.

I think the possible teams are:

Portsmouth
Gillingham
West Ham (U21) assuming they beat or draw against bottom of their table Wycombe
Luton
Swansea (U21) or maybe we can't meet them again next round
MK Dons
Peterborough
One of Plymouth, Yeovil or Chelsea (U21)

I can't imagine going to the game unless its West Ham or Chelsea and don't expect many will bother. However, its good that we are in the tournament still and hope that we win through this next round to collect the extra lolly

Swindon's impressive 4-2 away win at Bristol Rovers (who are on a poor run of form) takes them through.

However very unlikely they will top the table unless West Ham are 'hammered' by Wycombe ( by 2 goals or more), so not likely we will play them.

Yeovil or Portsmouth would be my picks for a tasty away tie.

Had a gut feeling that would be the one - don't mind either, but it will almost certainly be West Ham U21s at home

West Ham at home will not be easy at all. They have always had a history of producing talented youngsters.

I hadn’t realised a home draw was possible. I certainly hope we get to play West Ham at home. They will be at least as strong as Swansea were so I guess we can’t expect progression to the next round but it should be another entertaining game

When i first started my PE teaching career many moons ago, in West Ham, i can remember one of the district teams at u/16 age, had nine members of that squad signed as professional footballers, mostly to the Hammers, and a couple to Millwall. Cottee, Dickens, Ling come to mind. They had massive strength in depth and a real quality to select local talent to nurture. It was a priveledge to be part of that process. Great memories!!.

Does anyone know if a date has been set for this match? Are we definitely playing West Ham?

Hi

It is possible for Wycombe to beat WHam by 3 clear goals which would put Swindon top.
If W beat WH by 2 clear goals then Swindon and WH would have the same GD so presumably it would depend on whether WH score enough to have a better goals scored record; unless there is some other way to separate teams with the same points and the same GD. If they use the head to head result then WH have it.
5th Dec is shown on the web site.
