Interesting to compare the two local news providers coverage.

One sensationalises things based on claims made by random people on social media, the other one runs with sensible facts.

I noticed that as well: I guess it is the very different approach from each outlet, SNJ has adverts galore but least there is substance. GlosLive just well, a tabloid.

Stroud had it right verbal row that the police quickly stopped as I went by I do wish some of the press would check the facts first and not rely on social media to do their job which is poor and lazy journalism not letting the facts get in the way of a good " story"

A big problem will be that, forever, this match will be known as the one where there was a huge fight in the town centre and a policeman was injured.

Social media can be a force for good, but also can be a large problem. Maybe sites acting as informal news sources should be more careful about their editorial content.

Why is a verbal altercation even newsworthy? All a total non-story. The local media are parasites these days, latching onto anything on Twitter or Facebook to keep their costs down.

I went by it was shouting etc nothing more totally blown out of all proportion by lazy journalism, It reminds me of a news sketch with the late Mel Smith showing how news stations always like a Brit involved a train crash had happened and he listed the injuries by nation when he came to a Brit who was hurt when somebody commented on the cut of his suit! Get involved no matter how minor.

A police man twisted his ankle on the curb. Football fans walked down the hill together. Big, £@&*, Wow.

In the back of my mind i recall it being a Not The Nine o Clock news sketch CG so Mel Smith would fit in with that.

I have to laugh at the Cheltenham fans that were in Stroud "marching" through the high street singing FFG with a red flare. Cringe worthy

Laughable.

Points West has just used a blurry phone film to accompany a piece that some fans shouted at each other in Nailsworth, and Policeman had his hat knocked off then fell over in pursuit of the culprit! Was this a misdemeanour from Dixon of Dock Green? I can hear the police whistles now and a Keystone Cops chase in fast forward.

Hilarious stuff for YouTube maybe but is that the best journalists can do to justify a salary? Hang your heads in shame Citizen & Beeb

I think the next item was to have been that North Korea had sent a nuclear missile headed to the Green Man, but it was dropped as being insufficiently important.

I recall that by 7pm FGR had themselves put out a statement acknowledging this 'major incident'
(not sure where thats gone now )
- maybe the club also needs to do a bit of market research prior to releasing a 'statement 'about it

is that any different to the fanning of the flames that it gets in 'social media '

its not a case of burying information, but as mum would say-'less said-soonest mended'

did not see it myself-but does seem to be very much a storm in teacup

About FGR

We’re a club that looks to the future, but our identity is forged from a rich 128-year history. Founded in 1889, we’re one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

In 2017, we were promoted to the Football League for the first time in our history – which means we can spread our sustainability message to an even bigger audience. FIFA recently described us as the greenest football club in the world. That’s quite an accolade, and it shows how we’ve been able to bring together football and environmental consciousness at the highest levels of the game.
