Exeter v FGR [FA Cup]: match forecast

Postby The Old TomCat » Sun Dec 10, 2017 3:26 pm

Replay of 2nd round against Exeter on Tuesday, weather permitting.
A couple of weeks ago I would have been ultra confident of positive result but with so many injured and banned players unavailable for selection I am not so sure. However the team at Grimsby did commendably well so I'm not totally downhearted.
Exeter come off a 1-3 defeat but remain in play-off spot in 4th in table.

My prediction: Exeter 3-1 FGR although I hope I'm wrong.

Hard to predict what our line up will be, but I have faith that the travelling fans will be rewarded.

2-1 to FGR.

Exeter 1- 2 FGR.

Doidge and then Reece brown takes a direct free kick and bends it in like their ex owner bent the spoons. :D

Exeter 2 - FGR 0. Lack of available strength and quality at the minute will tell, I fear.

My prediction ..... match postponed due to frozen pitch !! Quite possible as the forecast suggests it could be as low as -12 !!! Guess it would move to the following Tuesday if that were to happen. Might help us get another couple of players back from injury though !

Although it will be very cold at Forest Green, the replay is in Exeter where temperatures are higher. I doubt the game will be postponed unless our players simply can’t get down there because of conditions elsewhere. Not sure how the FA would regard that but, in practice, I don’t think FGR would not turn up.

I think we will be able to field a decent first 11 but we are short on back up from the bench. We will miss a few of our best players and even with them it would be a tough ask to win at Exeter.

I think the wheels will come off on this one and Exeter will win 3-0. I’m hoping we don’t feel too bruised before a further monumental challenge Saturday. May be that postponement would be ideal...

Think you're probably right about the weather Tommo looks much colder up here than in Devon. Really hope you're less right about our "wheels" !

Me too. Unfortunate thing about the weather is that it is going to stop a lot of us going. Too much ice now and even more tonight. Hopefully we can get enough support down there to make a difference.

I've driven to Exeter in snowy conditions before and the car temp got to -14 and we weren't convinced it went any lower. The drive was fine, though id obviously suggest caution and for people to make their own minds up. But hopefully it will be well gritted and clear enough for us to make the journey if the fixture stays on.

Very cold tonight here ( could be -10) but tomorrow is milder, especially in the Exeter area. I think we will have al least a three figure following - full coach and dozens of cars.

Coops will be struggling to find subs but I have no doubt we will put up a good display with commitment and determination to get through to the next round.

About FGR

We’re a club that looks to the future, but our identity is forged from a rich 128-year history. Founded in 1889, we’re one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

In 2017, we were promoted to the Football League for the first time in our history – which means we can spread our sustainability message to an even bigger audience. FIFA recently described us as the greenest football club in the world. That’s quite an accolade, and it shows how we’ve been able to bring together football and environmental consciousness at the highest levels of the game.
