FGR v Carlisle: match forecast

The FGR v Carlisle match is the last for both clubs to have met every other team in EFL2: ie the season's middle game.

Form guide for both teams [6 matches] is FGR at 21st with 5 pts from W W L D D L
While Carlisle sit in 12th spot with 8 pts from W W L D D L

Carlisle's away form is better than their home form, which I find worrying.
However they have slipped recently although remain in 5th spot with 11 pts in the away form guide.

FGR's home form guide puts us down in 21st spot with just 7 pts.

A few weeks ago I would have had this as a home banker but FGR's form has slipped of late and Carlisle's away form is brilliant.
However I'm going for: FGR 1-0 Carlisle

Three correct 0-2 forecast out of 13 predicted home defeats.
There were six optimists amongst us predicting a home win and six with splinters in their bum forecasting a drawn match.

SkunkMan, Stanman & Tommo all move to next highest column of wins.

I also support Carlisle and have been to quite a few games this season so here is the inside track.

They have a better away record than home record.

The only team not beginning with the letter "C" they have beaten in the league is Yeovil (4-0). Also Oldham in FA Cup. The only other home league win is Cheltenham (hurray) 3-0 with our good friend Mr Pell getting his name on the scoresheet :-).

They have a far deeper squad than us, but no consistently good striker and would love a player like Doidge.

In fact the whole squad are horribly inconsistent with the possible exception of midfielder Luke Joyce (No 4). A player to watch on his day is Reggie Lambe (No 19).

Their season has consisted of tiny islands of great performance in a sea of lethargic mediocrity. Play-offs? even die hard fans think they are having a larf but I don't think anyone is fearing relegation.

I will be routing for the home side in each case. Really difficult to call but I think there could be a lot of goals.

FGR 3-2 CUFC

I think it was OTC who made that assertion originally ?

maybe there is a serious point here though-and just like different styles of play/formation-there must be different styles of warm-up.

some favouring the stretching/pilates type of approach-and other sides doing more match play simulation/two touch etc.
i'm a bit sad insofar as i do like to watch with jealousy these days as to their fitness, as they go through various stretches

As i was in the north stand-i did think to myself pre-match yesterday, that the Luton keeper looked formidable and assured ,and equally-when their strikers/midfielders were lining up for a bit of shooting practice-they were really fizzing them in the goal with power and conviction and only one missed the target.

(and at half time when Pickering was catching a few-i did not think it the most sensible thing for one of the volunteer pitch forkers ,to go and challenge/mess about with Pickering for a couple of crosses with a fork in his hand !! -but i guess i'm just a miserable old git,who wouldn't find it amusing if anyone landed with a stray fork impaled through their intestines )

Tough one to call, not knowing if Driss and Ossie will be back.

Both sides seem to let a few in and are inconsistent, but Carlisle don't seem to lose many to teams below them, especially away.

FGR 2 v Carlisle 3 and a not very happy Christmas

Hard one to call. Going to go for FGR 2, Carlisle 1. Hope some of the injured return especially Traore and Osbourne. Lost track of who will be available. Will Bennett or Monthe be suspension free?

My concern is that even though they will be back they may not be fully match fit yet. I hope their return isn't too rushed since we will need the likes of Osbourne from January onwards more than against Carlisle. Having them back, though, will be a great boost. Certainly having Traore back for a few minutes on Saturday was promising.

About FGR

We’re a club that looks to the future, but our identity is forged from a rich 128-year history. Founded in 1889, we’re one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

In 2017, we were promoted to the Football League for the first time in our history – which means we can spread our sustainability message to an even bigger audience. FIFA recently described us as the greenest football club in the world. That’s quite an accolade, and it shows how we’ve been able to bring together football and environmental consciousness at the highest levels of the game.
