Having driven all that way, was pleased to see 45 minutes of football although it was inevitable the game would be abandoned. The forecast was abysmal and the rain was intense all afternoon.
The pitch appeared firm underneath, but the surface became increasingly drenched with several large puddles by half time. The players from both sides coped admirably with the conditions and there looked to be few complaints from them during the first half. A few minutes from half time, when the referee looked at one of the growing puddles, players from each side tried desperately to remove it side footing it out of play. Great photo!
Our performance was several notches above that of last Saturday. All looked committed and we put together some good moves, considering the rain-soaked pitch. It was impressive how players kept their feet, especially the likes Osbourne and James who moved at speed. Arguably the best chances fell to Exeter, but we still could have been ahead by the break. Bradley Collins appeared composed and his kicking was faultless. The match could have gone either way....just like the two cup fixtures.
I'm pleased we will have another crack at them later in the season: with a stronger squad we should be capable of beating them on the 5th attempt! Hopefully none of the players are too worse for wear. Osbourne did pick up a yellow and Charlie had to have stitches after a nasty stamping just before half time.
Support was great - almost 250 on a horrible day after a poor home display. Well done to all who travelled, hope everyone made it home safely.
