Can't believe the negativity on here, Welcome to Forest Green Alex!

I've heard good things about him on Twitter from York fans. They've been saying the dip in form for them started when the manager left him out of starting XI

I've got a good feeling about this signing

Normally I would agree with you and look for the reason to be optimistic. And normally I'd say you get it right! But the example is slightly flawed

Ethan was at least the first choice at said Ryman club.
Ethan was 4 years younger
Ethan wasn't put on a 5 month contract.

If we were that confident they were making a coup, why only 5 months? I can only deduce from this that either he wanted 5 months and is not particularly keen on the club...or the club recognise he's a risk. Risk are great!.....when its September...and when your not ina dog fight. Is he going to be the stand out defender we need right now? The fact he is currently 2nd choice at a VNN side is not great omen.

The response of the York fans is concerning. Given that York is 2 leagues below...you'd expect a bit more of a reaction! When we signed Bugiel, Pinnock or Grub..Twitter was full of "Delighted for him" and "PLEASE DON'T GO or "So much for us having any ambition..letting go of their top player for free..sack the board". The ambivalence and somewhat joy that is being generated by the York fans is hardly going to settle any fan -it certainly suggests that we haven't signed anyone particularly special or of a talent that is mismatched for their current level.

I don't like the sorts of money that goes into football and I'm usually one of the last to advocate this. ... But this is another free signing. I think DV needs to flash the cash a bit here..the club made money from Pinnock and was ready to use cash for Woolery...why hasnt this been invested back into other positions?

With Pinnock we also had arguably the best CB pairing in the league already in Racine and Clough and expecting to challenge for the title. That's a bit different to now where we need first team players to improve the squad.

Nevertheless welcome to the club and prove us all wrong.

That argument doesn't add up. Whittle was a regular in the York side relegated from the National League.

I'm reserving judgement until we see him in action. Also, lets see what happens throughout the rest of the window. the squad needs bulking up and we cant do that with 100% proven league players, although I would still be hoping for at least 4 of those.

Have to say, Coopers signings of defenders have done much better than forwards, Doidge excepted.

In other York related news, Parkin 36 goals in a Calendar year!

Not impressed by this, we need players from higher up leagues who are desperate to impress, those we have signed from lower leagues have looked out their depth, very hard for players to step up 2 leagues unless young and already on league team radars, this lad ain’t !!

What is it that Mark C has seen in you Alex?

Welcome to FGR and now help get us up and away from the relegation zone.

I'm still hoping for a strong centre midfield signing of the calibre of Isaiah O.

It was a week ago when I was last this underwhelmed. I'd just had my first glance through the christmas radio times.

I am sure we all do.

i am as critical as anyone of MC's summer failings -which started this mess -but am i /we being a bit unfair.

are his hands tied from above ?

MC has been in this league before-and must know it needs strength and power, yet signed lightweights and those past best in summer.
he is not a bad manager though-
so is he effectively doing his best with his hands tied behind his back ?
i can't help wondering what the true story of these poor previous signings is.

no-one with his experience should have/could have got it that wrong .
when his memoirs are released in ten years time-i wonder what he will say about the summer of failure

This signing is very underwhelming when you consider our league position.

With regards to DV putting his hand in his pocket, could it be FFP that's the problem? If it is, we're in real trouble.

I am disappointed that FGR are looking at non league players to use at this stage. Surely we should be recruiting experienced league players. Or are we preparing to return to the National League.. Quality players àre needed

So long as he has a good engine he could really take off.

About FGR

We’re a club that looks to the future, but our identity is forged from a rich 128-year history. Founded in 1889, we’re one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

In 2017, we were promoted to the Football League for the first time in our history – which means we can spread our sustainability message to an even bigger audience. FIFA recently described us as the greenest football club in the world. That’s quite an accolade, and it shows how we’ve been able to bring together football and environmental consciousness at the highest levels of the game.
