Why only 5000 stadium? Surely if DV stated aim of championship footy was to happen one day then he would have to build another stadium? Or is it extendable?

I read it would be extendable

Me too, easily doubled to 10,000 if needed IIRC. Seems sensible way to play it.

That said, this current squad seem to put in a shift and work for each other, there is no reason to think we can't be the drop, it may come down to the last 4 games though.

I suspect you will not find many who disagree with that !

If FGR are safe with even 2 games to go-i would anticipate a lot of dancing in the streets of nailsworth that evening !

I was roughly 50:50 when this thread was started, but after the performance and result yesterday, my swing-ometer of survival has moved to 52:48 in our favour.

Completely agree Foggy, Yesterday result is only one game and should only tweak someones prediction/view. We need a little run of points. Point at Newport and a win at home against Stevenage on the Tuesday would do very nicely!!

I think the next five games are going to determine whether we stay up. Until we play Notts County on 10th March, we have five games against teams from mid-table downwards, from which we need to pick up points. I don't see us getting much from Notts County, Accrington or Mansfield (although I accept many people probably thought that about Coventry City), after which I think it will be too late if we haven't already picked up 8 points from the next five games - we have only taken points off three teams currently in the top half.

I think we need 48 points - 19 more - to stay up, at 1.26 per game from here on in.

Newport County – 11th
STEVENAGE – 14th
Morecambe – 20th
CRAWLEY TOWN – 12th
Crewe Alexandra - 21st
NOTTS COUNTY – 3rd
Accrington Stanley – 5th
MANSFIELD TOWN – 4th
Yeovil Town – 18th
COLCHESTER UNITED – 10th
Barnet – 24th
Cheltenham Town – 16th
CHESTERFIELD – 23rd
Luton Town – 1st
GRIMSBY TOWN – 17th

One crumb of comfort. Since the Newport horror show at TNL way back on 14th October, only league leaders Luton have beaten us by more than a single goal in EFL2. And with an improved squad since January, we can hopefully now turn some of these narrow defeats into draws and even a few wins.

That Chesterfield home game on 23rd is looking interesting, unless either us or them have a fairly dramatic turn around in form.

Err ..... and away a Exeter !
Take your point though. Much harder to breakdown and hopefully much less likely to collapse completely !!!

This squad is more than capable of staying up but it remains to be seen wether it's assembly was too little too late.

Well in reality, I did scoop £2,500 a couple of years ago, at Christmas time, with a lucky dip ticket a/m.

I would be pleasantly surprised if skunkmans suggested 48 points will be sufficient to stay up.

my thinking is minimum 53 points/prob 54 and ideally 56.

-and its do -able

When the lottery started, about three weeks in, I had two lines. I got 4 numbers and the bonus ball on one line. I also had number 7, and 6 came up which I had on the second line. One digit out. Won 37 quid instead of 150,000. Story of my life...!

Similar to my thoughts. If we get a win Saturday the pyschological impact will be as important as the points. 3 points Saturday and I can really see us kicking on and getting safe due to belief as much as anything else. I'm about 55/45 now in our favour.

Michael, please check out a few of our opponents forums.
Those down in the relegation zone with us are all pessimistic of survival.
None of them go by number of points required but teams they must better.
FGR are outside the automatic relegation zone and have had 3 successive home wins. Should we keep that standard going FGR are assured of survival irrespective of points tally.

I am borrowing the following stats from an earlier post in this thread from phil2010 on Page 3...

League Division 2
Points earned by occupants of 22nd place: 2007/8-2016/17

16/17 Newport 48
15/16 Newport 43
14/15 Hartlepool 45
13/14 Wycombe 50
12/13 Dagenham 51
11/12 Barnet 46
10/11 Barnet 48
09/10 Cheltenham 48
08/09 Grimsby 41
07/08 Chester 47

Mean average points for clubs finishing in 22nd place 2007/8-2016/17

46.7

...which suggest to me that 48 points SHOULD be enough, although of course I accept that there is no guarantee. It strikes me at this stage that there are going to be a few teams in this league that do not get to 50 points. And if we can get 53, 54 or 56 points that would be fine by me :D
