Morecambe v FGR: match forecast

FGR play away at Morecambe at time when both teams are just outside the automatic relegation spots. FGR have an extra point but Morecambe have a home game in hand.
A home win would leap frog Morecambe up table while an away win would put further distance between FGR and teams fighting relegation.
Sky Bet have the game down as a 1-0 home win.

Morecambe
Morecambe are 15th in current form table [6 games] with 6 points from 1 win, 3 draws & 2 losses:
Grimsby [w], Stevenage [d], Luton [l], Newport [d], Mansfield [l], Port Vale [d]

They are 21st in current home form table with 7 pts from 2 wins, 1 draw & 3 losses:
Crewe [l], Coventry [w], Notts Co [l], Yeovil [w], Stevenage [d], Mansfield [l]

Morecambe were 5th in table at start of season but since then their average is around 19/20. They have spent one week in automatic relegation spot.
Sky Bet has forecast they will finish season in 20th place with 47 points.

Miscellaneous facts:
5 games since a win
Only 8 games scoring 2 or more goals
Only 8 clean sheets this season
Only 3 home clean sheets this season

FGR
FGR are 10th in current form table with 3 wins and 3 losses
They are 24th in away form table with zero points.

Sky Bet now forecast that FGR will avoid relegation by finishing 22nd in table with 44 pts.

Miscellaneous facts:
12 games since a draw
Only 9 games scoring 2 or more goals
Only 3 clean sheets this season
7 games since an away win
6 games since an away draw
Only 2 games scoring 2 or more away goals
Only 1 away clean sheet this season

This game against Morecambe will be the third consecutive match that FGR will be able to compete a home and away winning double after Coventry & Stevenage. FGR have the momentum to win game despite only gaining a single point from past seven away games.

My forecast: Morecambe 0-2 FGR

If we set up positively and chase a win we can get something. But we won't and will play for a point. 2-0 Shrimps.

We have the formula now of spirit, application and belief, judging from last night's performance; hence:

1 - 3 FGR.

Our current away form might suggests nothing's doing, but I think that will change Saturday. Assuming the illness is out of the camp I will also go for a 2-1 win. Look at the players who can make something happen - Doidge, Reid, Grubb, Wishart, Osbourne and Bray to name just some of them. Defence is looking much tighter too.

What's happened to the forecast tables?

We haven't had one for ages and like FGR I'm no longer in the relegation zone and am moving up the table!

One ounce of complacency and the other team will win.

We've got a lot to build on now. Big big game.

Jim Bentley was a fantastic player for morecambe and one of Jim Harvey's protégés. No mug. Don't underestimate his belief in the club and the motivation that will bring. We need to be on top of our work ethic as much as anything else.

Hard graft.

I forecast a tight game. First one to blink.

Potential bad weather and our poor away form make me nervous, but their form is hardly great and we should be feeling much more confident after than last 2 performances

About FGR

We’re a club that looks to the future, but our identity is forged from a rich 128-year history. Founded in 1889, we’re one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

In 2017, we were promoted to the Football League for the first time in our history – which means we can spread our sustainability message to an even bigger audience. FIFA recently described us as the greenest football club in the world. That’s quite an accolade, and it shows how we’ve been able to bring together football and environmental consciousness at the highest levels of the game.
