Discrimination.

Postby Tomiswalking » Sun Sep 15, 2019 5:12 pm

Quite sad statistics from kick it out about the increase number of reports of discrimination in profesional football last season.

Gender 25% increase
Race 67.3% increase
Religion 96.8% increase
Sexual Orientation 7.2% increase

The good news I suppose is that may be people are more willing to make reports.

This link takes you to a page of various ways you can report the crime. There is an app for those interested.

I guess this rise in racism in football could be a little bit linked to this:

“Police have vowed to thwart the rise of the far right, which they have said is the fastest-growing terrorist threat in the UK, as they try to stop race hate ideologues from bringing violence to the country’s streets.”

Another story from the press today:

https://www.metro.news/racists-hunt-mig ... s/1723461/

What was it that Churchill said about fighting on the beaches, if this is just a starting point it makes one wonder where it might end...this seems to me a bit like a trip back to the 30's, and that didn't end very well.

Once people realise they are wrong to accuse victims of “overreacting” and wrong to excuse politicians for racist language I have a fear it will be too late.

Whichever way you cut it the article is sad.

It's like the whole history of Great Britain has been thrown in a bin and the fact that our nation has been enriched by waves of immigration for more than a thousand years hasn't actually happened.

Nothing has changed and nor has the cycle of forgetting the past and history repeating itself. Generally for short term aims which turn out to be, well, shortsighted.

Sad.

It just seems to be the way the country is moving and voting. It seems its part of a pattern of intolerance of difference that is growing across the world but I think that our apparent hankering for some past 'Empire Rules The Waves' nostalgia is putting us at the forefront of it. I'm not sure football is any worse than many other areas and I haven't seen any evidence of this sort of prejudice at FGR but it always feels just under the surface. I just hope it doesn't emerge on our patch especially given the diversity of our team.

Distressing, truly, scenes from Bulgaria tonight.

A few years further down the trajectory the U.K. is heading on. This is where we will end up if the likes of Farage and Yaxley-Lennon are not called out and distanced from the mainstream.

Yup. Please include Boris Johnson in that, he’s after votes, however gained.

There really are, and some of our ' leaders ' are pretty close to it too.

It seems like three years ago the lid was taken off the dustbin and the smell from what is inside is pretty unpalatable:

Disgusted.

If ever a warning was needed about the increasing trend of western political parties courting ever more right wing stances, this is it. These vile fellow travellers take heart from the moral vacuum. The failure of social media to regulate itself reasonably is also complicit

Check out our own leader. Whist his votes in parlament have been fairly supportive of gay rights, he says something completely different.

In his 2001 book "Friends, Voters, Countrymen," Johnson compared gay marriage to bestiality, writing that "If gay marriage was OK – and I was uncertain on the issue – then I saw no reason in principle why a union should not be consecrated between three men, as well as two men, or indeed three men and a dog."

There was even more explicit homophobia. As Business Insider previously revealed, in a 1998 Telegraph column about Peter Mandelson's resignation from the Labour government, Johnson said the announcement would lead to the blubbing of "tank-topped bumboys" in "the Ministry of Sound" nightclub, and "the soft-lit Soho drinking clubs frequented by Mandy and his pals."

Say something like that at a football match and you would rightly be kicked out. Yet people on here condone his behaviour.

About FGR

We’re a club that looks to the future, but our identity is forged from a rich 128-year history. Founded in 1889, we’re one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

In 2017, we were promoted to the Football League for the first time in our history – which means we can spread our sustainability message to an even bigger audience. FIFA recently described us as the greenest football club in the world. That’s quite an accolade, and it shows how we’ve been able to bring together football and environmental consciousness at the highest levels of the game.
