Anthem Ideas for FGR

Postby It is now » Mon Sep 16, 2019 6:59 pm

Always impressed when teams have an anthem everyone sings before and during a game eg Glad All Over, Hey Ho Silver Lining etc etc

I was privileged to be at the radio 2 gig in Hyde Park yesterday and Pet Shop Boys played their version of Village People’s “Go West” which the whole crowd sang along with.

Strikes me that Go West & Forest are interchangeable and I’m sure the Football Poets And other clever people could rewrite the lyrics which already lend them self to a country based, eco team in Green shirts ??

Come on you budding songwriters

I've already written one.

18 months ago and started a similar thread to this one. Lots of fans liked it but no-one sang it. :(

An anthem has to be sung by everyone to have an effect. If everyone does so, I think it would be brilliant.

I've changed the words slightly because a lot has happened in the past 18 months. I think it would be a great anthem so if you ever feel like singing it, let me know and I'll join you. I'm sure you know the tune! :D

Hey Dale
You are a star
You took a great team and made it better
We're so glad you let us into your heart
We're all together
We're FGR

Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah,
nah, nah, nah ROVERS!

Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah,
nah, nah, nah, nah ROVERS!

Hey Jude by The Beatles...at a guess, if not it does work with that tune!
The future is bright, the future is green...Forest Green!

I thought you would've recognised it immediately. You are obviously a lot younger than me!

It's ' Hey Jude' by the Beatles.

yep-a good club anthem :

goes a bit like this :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmRf8JOpVG8

you get a real feel for it after about one minute .

now that would really get the crowd jumping ,and throw in a bit of crowd surfing from the east stand.

I actually prefer this version but at least we agree about the tune!

During the promotion season we often sang the Herman's Hermits "Something tells me I'm into something good" which went down very well.

I can't remember all the words, but one line was "Cooper's got us playing the way we should".
No animals were harmed during the creation of this message, but some electrons became agitated.

When Frank Gregan was manager the dressing room anthem that he used to send the team out was “Going Home” by Dire Straits unfortunately it is an instrumental !

digressing slightly ,whilst personally not one of those 'singer types ' i confess i loved the Wrexham games, and was always impressed by their wholehearted pre-match rendition of Hen Wlad -Fy Nhadau .

-always gives me goose bumps that one

I'm getting to like this thread .

here's another:

I wanna sing ,i wanna shout
i wanna scream till the words dry out
so put it in all of the papers(john light ),i'm not afraid
they can read all about it,read all about it

any thoughts on which Fgr supporters should thus take the role of Emile Sande and Professor Green ?

thank heaven there is a football match to enjoy tonight and back to normality

Hmmm .. all the suggestions are a bit slow for me. Hey Jude is a great song but not bouncy enough.

Back in the 90s I was at a world championship semi final ice hockey match in Vienna between Austria & Sweden. 18,000 fans (split almost 50/50) sang Go West at each other and each set of fans sang the responses in their own language and vice versa. That was back of the neck hair tingling too. It has real pace and beat.

Just saying !

was thinking the same :

i thought plenty of bounce in the techno trance re-mix of Hey Jude posted above .

not sure i've come across too many mosh pits at football grounds , no matter how much you like to bounce

'I'm sad to say we must be on our way
We're going to the Premier League and you're standing in our way!'

'to the village of Forest Green where it all began'?
'to a place called Forest Green where it all began'?
'to The New Lawn in Forest green where it all began'?

About FGR

We’re a club that looks to the future, but our identity is forged from a rich 128-year history. Founded in 1889, we’re one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

In 2017, we were promoted to the Football League for the first time in our history – which means we can spread our sustainability message to an even bigger audience. FIFA recently described us as the greenest football club in the world. That’s quite an accolade, and it shows how we’ve been able to bring together football and environmental consciousness at the highest levels of the game.
