Sweet Caroline

We can abandon that experiment now can’t we?

Awful, awful choice of song, favoured only by drunken, post-last orders, musically-illiterate oafs.

Embarrassing.

On the contrary, Sweet Caroline has been adopted by many football clubs because of it rousing chorus that has most of the crowd singing along.
I love it and hope club keeps playing it at every home game.

Excuse me you should watch some of this song on YouTube defiantly not for drunken oafs. A favourite for many of my friends and family and a favourite of my late mother's, who do you think you are to give out such an up your own donkey comment.

I even caught our academy boss Hannah singing along to it on Saturday :D

We pride ourselves on doing things differently...surely that must include choosing a song, for fans to sing along to before the game starts, that isn't used by lots of other clubs.

If we can't come up with something even vaguely original, why don't we go the whole hog on plagiarism and use "You'll never walk alone"?

The players like it, always play it in the dressing room after wins apparently.

Good song.

Didn’t say it wasn’t a good song, just that it was an awful choice given what the song has become. It’s in the same vein as ‘Come On Eileen’, ‘Tainted Love’, and ‘The Birdie Song’. It’s a ‘drunk uncle at a wedding’ anthem nowadays and is a lazy choice.

Where’s our originality gone?

I can remember Villa had a great song the team used to come out to - very uplifting and popular with the home crowd.

if i was given a pound in royalties every time the 'most uplifting song/'music to come out to' thread and posts was repeated on football forums, i would be a multi millionaire .
probably three threads on this forum alone in last 12 months.

i suspect you would have a better chance of getting uk conscensus on leave/remain than you would on 'best song'

Exactly right.

Those who object to certain songs do not apparently appreciate that in the run-up to kick-off many, many songs are played and it is possible to accommodate everybody's personal taste.
DV has requested 'Jerusalem'
Football fans throughout the country like 'Caroline'
and plenty of clubs also want their own played: 'Good Night Irene. [Bristol Rovers], 'You'll never walk alone' [Liverpool] are a couple of examples.
Only until FGR adopt one of their own 'Sweet Caroline' is the best available. It has the feel good factor that all football fans want before a game.

Maybe everyone at the club should have to consult Treehugger before playing any pre-match music, so that he doesn't have to endure any songs that all us 'drunken oafs' might like.

There is a variety of music played pre-match, as with any group that includes a number of different demographics, you're never going to be able to please everyone all the time. The trick is to be tolerant of other people's tastes.

About FGR

We’re a club that looks to the future, but our identity is forged from a rich 128-year history. Founded in 1889, we’re one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

In 2017, we were promoted to the Football League for the first time in our history – which means we can spread our sustainability message to an even bigger audience. FIFA recently described us as the greenest football club in the world. That’s quite an accolade, and it shows how we’ve been able to bring together football and environmental consciousness at the highest levels of the game.
