Oh for heavens sake get real.
Sweet Caroline has become the most popular sporting theme in the world in more than many sports.

Composer said it as dedicated towards his own wife and I am happy to believe his own words.
To say otherwise is disingenuous.

I love it as do millions of others including majority of FGR supporters.
Long may we hear it played on the FGR tannoy.

I think CFW forgot to use the sarcasm font in his post, thus the confusion.

I expect the conspiracy theorists for 2020 will be looking deeply into the lyrics and motives of Robby Burns's 'Auld lang syne' after midnight.

There were quite a few moans that the loudspeaker had been turned right the way up for the music.
It did stop a lot of conversation for the 15 minutes before game started.

The music level is loud at the request of the playing staff.
They are asking to have it loud to encourage the players in warm up,
to cover negative comments from the supporters both home and away during that time and also to stop any tactical discussions being over heard by the away team and management.

Job done in that case, only problem is that it is impossible to have a conversation with someone stood or sat right beside you without screaming at each-other...however they are also drowning out positive comments! By the time the match starts many supporters will already have shouted themselves hoarse...cut the volume before the game, increase it from the fans when we are playing...not too complicated is it!

It was the same again yesterday at half time.

Unfortunately we are struggling with a fairly antiquated system.
The speakers can not be controlled individually.
The override between microphone and music is not easy to adjust at best and is very sensitive to any adjustments at all with setup requiring two people and a quiet stadium.
(Maybe we sould try during the game at times)
Some of the speakers have a delay between each other of over 1 second which makes understanding what is being played or announced almost impossible in some areas.
In the PA room relationship to what is being played and announced is completely remote. There are no speakers in the PA room
which is double glazed with no opening windows. The announcer is effectively deaf to the sound levels in the stadium.
Another point to take into consideration is the crowd density in the area that you sit in.
If it is a highly populated area then more sound is absorbed than an area with few people in and the effective volumes varey accordingly.
Not the ideal situation to be in but I can not see much being changed before we move to the new stadium.

I have invested in a really good pair of earplugs for tomorrow...just in case the volume is too loud or they play this abomination of a tune!!!

Looking forward to a loud rendition of "Sweet Caroline " tomorrow, and going to introduce it to two friends who are accompanying us. Bring it on - we are listening in the East Stand.

Played this at Mansfield last week and all their fan's joined in. It must be hard to get it right with the tannoy I think it's way too loud at the NL but you couldn't hear it at Mansfield last week.
I saw one post say turn the speakers out towards the pitch sound's a good idea to me.

Try Plaistow Patricia by Ian Drury. That'll sort it all out.

That PA system at Mansfield was a belter. It made loads of noise but you couldn't make out a word the announcer said.

About FGR

We’re a club that looks to the future, but our identity is forged from a rich 128-year history. Founded in 1889, we’re one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

In 2017, we were promoted to the Football League for the first time in our history – which means we can spread our sustainability message to an even bigger audience. FIFA recently described us as the greenest football club in the world. That’s quite an accolade, and it shows how we’ve been able to bring together football and environmental consciousness at the highest levels of the game.
