Greeners' opening suggestion is on the right track and yes, male, but as an additional clue:

4/ The unusual target of a particular Israeli, with some hesitation, should spell out the answer. ;)

Hi TSO BOS

I had misread it as 3 score and twenty (Derived from the usual lifetime of 3 score and ten).

Correct NFR, but there again I guess you don't smoke Cigars.

1/ :? Mixed up his Syllables. e.g. A well-boiled icicle" ("well-oiled bicycle")

2/ :? For 2 score years and 20 more. Continued to do so for 60 years in various positions at New College.

3/ Buried Grasmere Cemetery.

4/ The Israeli is Uri Geller, who's unusual target is a SPOON and with some hesitation... (ER).

Yes, William Spooner.

Keep this thread going NFR.

I think you must know how much I love the cryptic clues FA! :D
I had no idea whatsoever until clue 4. Uri Geller was the only Israeli I could think of so the Spoon..Er didn’t take me long to work out. William was buried in Cumbria so I guessed it must be him.

As this forum is closing down shortly, I think it’s a good idea to pause this thread for a few days rather than interrupt a game half way through.
Hopefully at the end of the week/weekend I’ll be able to re-start all the game threads on the new forum.

About FGR

We’re a club that looks to the future, but our identity is forged from a rich 128-year history. Founded in 1889, we’re one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

In 2017, we were promoted to the Football League for the first time in our history – which means we can spread our sustainability message to an even bigger audience. FIFA recently described us as the greenest football club in the world. That’s quite an accolade, and it shows how we’ve been able to bring together football and environmental consciousness at the highest levels of the game.
