P.S.
Wouldn't it be good if someone can do next verse and we are able to keep this going until end of season!

It's been a long time since I felt moved to contribute again to the Forum. I have been reading avidly but became heartedly sick of some of the bad mouthing that went on towards the end of last season. And now it is being inferred that people could be referred to as lice. Can we just cut this out and return to proper debate - whether you agree or disagree. If you cannot control yourself just don't post and have a quick walk round the block to calm down. I would love to be able to post poems about football again. Return to proper debate and you may be unfortunate enough to read them.

IT ISN’T NICE TO BE CALLED A LICE
(Unless you are a lice)

It isn't nice to be called a lice
Maybe twice or thrice - it cuts no dice
Using every device to wind others up - a fool’s paradise
It just isn’t nice - to be precise

It’s a cheap shot, imprecise, it just isn’t nice
Critics should be enticed not sliced
It’s a forum ,not a paradise just for sycophants giving advice
No matter how that advice may be as I say imprecise

We’re playing well, FGR our passionate vice
So let’s not call people lice as a rhetorical device
Spice by all means - but lice - it cuts no dice
To be concise, precise let’s excise lice and just be nice.

Apologies for not replying in poetry, I know my capabilities especially at 7am!

Debate is healthy and spurs many to read and contribute to the forum. Inappropriate vocabulary and insults reduce the numbers participating as Farmcotian’s introductory remarks suggest.

This season’s forum IMO has covered a range of topics and been pretty balanced, but thanks for the poem, it’s a timely reminder to us all.

Was wondering if poetry had become an endangered quantity but welcome it's return.

The atmosphere around the club seems far better than last season, less evidence of fraction and division, long may that continue.

Farmcotian, it's fab to have you back. I've missed your poetry.

This is a belter, and very apt.

First time you have written a 'lousy' poem Farmcotian!

Great words & sentiment. Not sure what caused the hostilities to break out as they did, just when manager, coaches, players & supporters seemed to be on the same sheet. Hopefully the sourness will soon be forgotten as we resume the love-in!

You say it's not nice to be called a lice
but please try and read your electric device
Not a single person was called that word so precise
But if the cap fits, wear it just like a grumpy lice.

The actual feeling that I was being so precise
Was that the club was playing with MC's advice
In such away that the lice couldn't write in their device
But just creep back into the wood awaiting their grumpy vice.

It's not blasphemous to question.

It is not treasonous to criticise.

We should not blindly follow

We must look through open eyes.

or:
It’s not sacrilegious to enquire
It’s not sanctimonious to decry
It’s not pernicious to pacify
We all have the right to say - why?

Been looking at the John Light debate. It could perhaps be summed up thus:

Some say The New Lawn with a bibliotheca compares
Only for those who come to watch and admire silently
An athenaeum where silence is a watchword - one just stares
But others disagree and feel we should shout vigorously and violently

But without the South Stand to lead us, the seated multitude
We have no reference point, no chief librarian to give permission
To shout “Come on You Rovers” with passion and verisimilitude
So come on lads, give the silent majority the right to sing without inhibition

If you're sitting in the library
Quiet but feeling proud
Of a club that's loved so much
You want to shout out loud

But you're too afraid to do so
And let your feelings show
Forget those inhibitions
Our players need to know

When those around are chanting
And you consider joining in
Be brave and make a difference
Your voice will help us win

:)

Wonderful. It's nice to have Poetry Corner back.
