I was going to write a selection of new soliloquies based on happiness and featuring plays that reminded me of my recent work in Italy. However, the abject performance yesterday made me think of Macbeth, particularly after last night's brilliant Shakespeare Anniversary programme on BBC 2.
At least I have tried to craft we hope springing eternal.

Is this the playoffs I see before me.
The hope of promotion in my head? Come, let me dream here
We have it not and yet I believe in thee still
This may be my fatal vision and not sensible
But just a mirage, it is perhaps not in sight
A dagger in the heart, our early season form a false creation
An apparition, a dream in my fevered brain?

I see thee yet but thy form is a tale of woe
And it is on hope that I must draw
Who marshall’st us and has failed in that duty?
Battle tactics askew and passion low
Mine eyes see the detritus which passes for our play
From bad to worse, yet the holy grail I see thee still
But we must perform again, stir the sinews and the blood
Which was so before - failure - there must be no such thing.
Time is but an illusion - lunchtime doubly so.

I think that's my seat Joycie! Great poem and a worthy addition to the canon. You have enthused me to another based on the loss of our wonderful old mascot.

The badgers strike back

We lost our badger mascot a few seasons back
But now the real badgers have gone on the attack
"That ridiculous gargoyle that replaced our race,
Was a heinous crime - a disgrace"

Now they have to creep in at the dead of night
Grubbing for morsels in row H - a desperate plight
"We yearn for our black and white icon to return -it's been too long
"Bring our badger cousin back" - you know we can't be wrong!
Time is but an illusion - lunchtime doubly so.

Nice one! F/C

Here's possibly one of the cheesiest poems out there, but worth a look:-

When games go wrong, as they sometimes will,

When the pitch you're playing seems all uphill,
When the funds are high and the games are blown,
And we want to smile, but you have to groan,
When the other side is knocking you down a bit-
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.

Football is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us often learns,
And many a player turns about
When he might have won had he stuck his foot out.
Don't give up though the pace seems fast -
You may succeed with another run past.
Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man;

Often the player has given up
When he might have captured the winner's cup;
And he learned too late when the whistle was blown,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out -
The silver tint in the clouds of doubt,
And you really feel how close we are,
It looks so near, it seems afar;
So stick to the fight when we're feeling s**t -
It's when things seem worst that we all must not quit.

Is this yours v/b??? If so I hope that Chris considers it for the book he is hoping to put together.

When all about you are doubting your attitude, fight, grit
Prove them all wrong , play hard for your badge and club
Our opponents into the pitch, their noses rub
Cause if we win at Wembley - who gives a s**t

Not one of my best but hey I am feeling really positive about the playoffs, seriously. We can do it. Let's do it for Sam who has always given a 100 per cent.

I couldn't let the sacking of our manager go by without a quick valedictory poem written for Ady written this morning. I wish him luck in wherever he goes.

THE LEAVING

It has been an interesting and rollercoaster ride
When Ady was appointed as the manager of our side
Maintaining in his first season the status quo
When it became clear Hockaday had to go

Then fifth, our highest, and a playoff place
It became clear, a better team, now firmly in the race
Some still had reservations but who could ignore
The next season would be a cracker a team to adore

Wow - what a start we had to the 15/16 season
Undefeated, Champions - other thoughts, well treason
But the first signs of discord started to appear
Results were suffering but surely nothing to fear

Fans favorites being left out, even sold to our rivals,
Good forwards sold, given away, the inferior arrivals
We couldn’t score to save our lives, fans began to question
Attitude, management, favoured players selection

And so it became clear as the playoffs beckoned
Dale realised the slide was scary - not good enough second
Many thought Ady had lost the dressing room
The last nine matches (an early season parallel) increased the gloom

And so we must look the immediate task in hand
Promotion to the League with our Scott in charge- dreamland
We thank Ady for our progress but not our style
And wish him well, find a new club, not long in exile

But we need a new manager who must be in place close season
Experience, man management skills, list high in the reasons
Much to do,new contracts, a playing style with panache
New groundsmen, a pitch worthy of players cutting a dash

So to Ady Pennock we say goodbye and a good new job you’ll pluck
But beware of teams like Leeds who recruit men down on their luck
I’m sad to say that Rovers future is better with you leaving
Thanks for getting us half way up the mountain and in the dream believing
Time is but an illusion - lunchtime doubly so.

OK, here's one for you, with my sincere apologies to Lemmy who can be now heard spinning in his grave, but seems quite apt.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H71VEV1c_XE

We are the Rovers (with more than a passing resemblance to We are the Road Crew)

Another town another place,
Another game, another face,
Another match, another race,

I'm eating junk, feeling bad,
Another day, I'm going mad,
My team’s loosing, I feel sad,

But I just love the life I lead,
Another beer is what I need,
Another shout my throat will bleed,

We Are The Rovers!

Another town we've left behind,
Another draw completely blind,
Another hope that I can't find,

Another away-end pass for you,
Another scarf that I get through,
Another turnstile to go through,

I'm shouting like a maniac,
Scream my way to hell and back,
Another book and bag to pack,

We Are The Rovers!

Another pub to have a drink,
Another local ale to sink,
Another oppo’s chant today,

Another coachstop on the way,
Another chat with Old Tomcat,
And lots of talk of this and that,

Another bloomin’ Stroud Life post,
Another look at Dover’s coast,
Another set of wins to boast,

We Are The Rovers!!

with apologies to messrs Lennon & McCartney

On a hill in Gloucestershire
Lived a man who loved the earth
And he told us of a life
In the land of wind machines

So he bought the club that we love
And he changed the kit to green
Now we'll march to Wember-ley
To cheer on Forest Green

We all follow the mighty Forest Green,
The mighty Forest Green, the mighty Forest Green
We all follow the mighty Forest Green,
The mighty Forest Green, the mighty Forest Green!

And our friends in the eesi end,
Many more of them in the main stand
And the band begins to play

(full speed ahead mr Parkin, full speed ahead!
full speed over here sir,
action stations! action stations!
aye, aye sir, goal!
Heaven, Heaven!)

As we live a life of ease (life of ease)
Everyone of us (everyone of us)
Has all we need (has all we need)
Sky is blue ( sky is blue)
Shirts are Green (shirts are Green)
We're the mighty ( we are the mighty)
Forest Green ( Forest Green)

We all follow the mighty Forest Green,
The mighty Forest Green, the mighty Forest Green
We all follow the mighty Forest Green,
The mighty Forest Green, the mighty Forest Green!

We all follow the mighty Forest Green,
The mighty Forest Green, the mighty Forest Green
We all follow the mighty Forest Green,
The mighty Forest Green, the mighty Forest Green!
Geronimo!!!!!!!

About FGR

We’re a club that looks to the future, but our identity is forged from a rich 128-year history. Founded in 1889, we’re one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

In 2017, we were promoted to the Football League for the first time in our history – which means we can spread our sustainability message to an even bigger audience. FIFA recently described us as the greenest football club in the world. That’s quite an accolade, and it shows how we’ve been able to bring together football and environmental consciousness at the highest levels of the game.
