Earth Overshoot Day

Postby camel » Mon Aug 07, 2017 8:21 pm

Just to highlight the importance of Dale's eco message earlier this month we had Earth Overshoot day, which marks the point in the year where humanities resource consumption exceeds Earth's capacity to regenerate those resources in that same year. In short we are running a huge deficit that in the short, medium and long term will have an ever increasing effect on the sustainability of the planet.

What the club has achieved by raising awareness and discussion in recent weeks through its success in the pitch makes me incredibly proud. It shows that success shouldn't need to, and doesn't need to, come at any cost.

It is becoming a more prominent issue and some big companies are taking stock. For example, Lego are looking at alternatives to plastic for making their world famous blocks....id definitely buy a limited edition New Lawn set ;)

About FGR

We’re a club that looks to the future, but our identity is forged from a rich 128-year history. Founded in 1889, we’re one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

In 2017, we were promoted to the Football League for the first time in our history – which means we can spread our sustainability message to an even bigger audience. FIFA recently described us as the greenest football club in the world. That’s quite an accolade, and it shows how we’ve been able to bring together football and environmental consciousness at the highest levels of the game.
