The Player who made the biggest impact on debut for FGR?

Postby Fartvs Antiqvvs » Fri Jan 19, 2018 7:48 pm

I will nominate Marcus Kelly who scored a hat-trick v Hyde, and wasn't even noted as a Striker.

Seconded....that impact from himlasted all season, although the Hyde win was a false dawn for the team

At the end of the season he was voted Supporters Player of the Year, Players Player of the Year and won the club's Goal of the Season award. It's a shame he didn't feature in MC's plans, but has been an ever present in midfield for Wrexham this season.

Let's hope Reuben Reid's great debut is a sign of things to come.

Was it Bugiel's debut when he came on as sub against Woking, and scored those two goals to grasp victory from the jaws of defeat? Can't remember, but if it was, some impact.

I think Omar set up Doidge for the first, with pretty much his first touch of the ball, then scored himself a few minutes later.

Didn't Matty Taylor score a Hat Trick on his debut at home vs Alfreton?

Sam Bowen, came on loan from Westfields during 03-04 season, during an injury crisis, stepping up several divisions, was picked up on the way to Northwich and scored a hattrick in a 4-0 win, all headers I think.

Those were his only goals for us.

Reece Styche scored 1 or 2 on his debut at an away game on a Tuesday night. He made a big impact on the team that season and not long after Luton were offering £50k for him.

The 3 goals there, were his opening account, but not sure they were scored on his debut with FGR. H to clarify?

How about Super Ted, who came down for a one off appearance in goal for a pre-season friendly as we had none fit or available. He pulled off some great saves, enough to earn the man of the match award, and earned himself a contract.

Hayes and Yeading away was the game, sadly for Reece it didn't quite work out for Reece as he would of liked in the full time game.

Hands down the biggest debut impact. Two goals in the last ten minutes, I recall.

Tahvon Campbell.

Just because he was there when I was there and he made everybody else there who was celebrating four even happier when he made it five!

I think Sam Bowen only played twice for us. The 4 nil win away at Northwich and the 1 - 7 loss to the best non league side I have seen being Hereford. I also think Colin Addison got sacked soon after that result.
For me several players have caught my attention. Little Johnny Hayes, just a class above everyone else on his first game. Ben Harding looked class but for me the one player that really stood out for me was Steve Brodie/ Broady ( depending how you spell it). One goal in particular. It was then when I realised the difference in players that was needed to do well in the Conference.

Hayes and Harding - both class and it showed in every match they played. Rare blossoming talent - at the Old Lawn??

Remember watching Marcus as a triallist at the Brimscombe friendly and he was head and shoulders the best player on the pitch, he was also a model player, always friendly and well spoken and just got on with his job.

Hayes away. Freezing cold. Reece Styche double on his debut immediately brought hope.

I also remember Steve Brody standing out. I picked him as MOTM when he played. I've got the photo on my desk at work.

About FGR

We’re a club that looks to the future, but our identity is forged from a rich 128-year history. Founded in 1889, we’re one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

In 2017, we were promoted to the Football League for the first time in our history – which means we can spread our sustainability message to an even bigger audience. FIFA recently described us as the greenest football club in the world. That’s quite an accolade, and it shows how we’ve been able to bring together football and environmental consciousness at the highest levels of the game.
