Great to see the first 24 ambassadors signed up from 20 schools. Next year the ambassador programme is planned to be better than ever with more opportunities for ambassadors to promote FGR and a higher profile for their activities.

The target is to have 30 on board by Easter, 40 by the end of the season and 50+ by the end of the school year ( late July).

2017-18 season

We now have 34 ambassadors signed up from 27 schools. I aim to have another half dozen on board by the end of the season and 50 before the schools break up for the summer.

I have my list of schools who have previously had ambassadors and will be contacting them in the next couple of weeks. If you have a child or know of one, who attends a school not on the above list and supports FGR please let me know. I will then communicate with the family and the school.

Thanks, I will certainly contact The Castle School and give them details of the scheme.

Do you know any FGR fans who attend the school? If staff know there are pupils who are FGR supporters, they are far more likely to respond

I used to be a PE Teacher there, and have contacted a colleague today requesting details for you. There are a number of other Junior schools in and around Thornbury you could contact. Also Charfield, Kingswood and various other Junior schools in Dursley and Cam should be useful. Steve.

We now have 45 ambassadors for 2017-2018, with several new schools: I am keen to reach 50 by the end of May and 60 by the end of the school academic year. ( see list of those appointed above)

Any help, if you have contacts at these schools, would be appreciated. Pester power works!!

Awaiting responses from:

These schools have all had ambassadors in the past

Amberley - about to appoint
Beaudesert - not appointing
Berkeley - appointed
Bussage - appointed
Eastcombe - not appointing
Foxmoor - no response
Longney - no response
Minchinhampton - appointed
Nailsworth - appointed
St Marys, Tetbury - appointed
St Dominics - appointed
Stroud High - no response

Schools where we have never had ambassadors: I am always happy to visit a school and talk to Headteachers/Students. I have written again to all these schools.

Horsley
Nympsfield...will be visiting the school

Bussage and Nailsworth now appointed, Sharpness showing interest (Thanks Carl Tronier for approaching them)

50 now recruited. I was in Thrupp School today and the Head and school were very keen to be involved.

It would great to reach 60, the excellent number we reached last season

Minchinhampton has appointed and Severn Vale for the first time.

Expressions of interest from Paternosters, Cirencester and Westonbirt school - I am confident we will have 60 ambassadors appointed by June.

I visited Cleeve School in Cheltenham this week and they too are considering a link with FGR.

Good to have Beaudesert back on board. Most pleasing we have first time member schools - Pates (Cheltenham), Rodmarton and Oakridge.

The momentum is still moving with Nympsfield, Bisley and Gastrells ( again all new schools ) in the process of narrowing down their field of applicants.

So we will have a record number of ambassadors from a record number of schools in an ever widening catchment area. I can't help but think back to the year o the ambassadors' scheme inception when we had only 8 ambassadors and they were all boys in very local primary schools!

Hi Pitchfork, I used to work with BCFC Community Dept in the early years of that initiative in the 1990's and became involved with many schemes trying to encourage school-children, local minority groups, of various age ranges, etc to become involved with the club. Many of the examples i applied to my school in Thornbury, with varying degrees of success. If you are in need of any other ideas, please let me know and we can communicate. By the way, i think that The Ambassadors scheme is a very good start, and could lead onto greater initiatives for FGR.

Hi GetCarter

The ambassador scheme will hopefully lead onto many more community initiatives now we are a football league club. It keeps me very busy!

Hope we can meet up once the season starts

About FGR

Based in the town of Nailsworth, we are currently the longest serving member of the Football Conference having served the league well since 1998. We are aiming to break this habit over the next few seasons and climb into the football league for the first time with positive changes and investment on and off the pitch pushing us towards success.
