Silent Child wins Oscar!

Postby Chrisgump11 » Mon Mar 05, 2018 9:03 am

Gloucestershire Deaf Association is walking on air this morning

The Silent Child which stars deaf 6 year old Maisie Sly, daughter of one of our senior members of staff Gilson, won the Oscar for Best Short Film. The film co-starred and was written by Rachel Shelton and Directed by her husband Chris Overton. It was inspired by Rachel’s father who is deaf. Rachel used sign language during the acceptance ceremony

In the film, Maisie plays a deaf child of hearing parents. It touches upon her experience at home and at school and the different perceptions people may have of signing, lip reading and so on. The aim is to fund a full length film

It is hoped that Gilson and his family and GDA will be guests at the Mansfield match on 24th March. Hope so.

We are so proud of the family and Chris & Rachel.

This is brilliant - one of the most deserving awards at this year's OSCARS.

Hopefully a full length film will follow.

That’s the best news I’ve heard for some time, lets hope the FGR invitation is accepted.

Congratulations to the family, especially to Maisie.

About FGR

We’re a club that looks to the future, but our identity is forged from a rich 128-year history. Founded in 1889, we’re one of the oldest football clubs in the world.

In 2017, we were promoted to the Football League for the first time in our history – which means we can spread our sustainability message to an even bigger audience. FIFA recently described us as the greenest football club in the world. That’s quite an accolade, and it shows how we’ve been able to bring together football and environmental consciousness at the highest levels of the game.
